The Resilient Cities Network highlights Roha’s one-hectare indigenous Miyawaki forest in Addis Ababa as an innovative example of nature-based healthcare and urban resilience. The feature explores how the forest is integrated into the hospital’s design to support patient wellbeing, reduce exposure to noise and air pollution, restore indigenous ecology, and create a therapeutic environment. With more than 12,500 native seedlings representing over 50 species and survival rates exceeding 90%, the project demonstrates how healthcare development can contribute to both human health and urban ecological restoration.
